OKEECHOBEE- The Yearling Middle School volleyball team beat Osceola Middle School in two sets on Sept. 21. Winning their first set 25-14 and second set 25-13.
Osceola actually jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the second set, but a few great serves from Yearling’s Alyssa Madrigal put YMS up 16-10 midway through the set. Both teams appeared evenly matched, but Yearling was able to ride a series of back-to-back momentum changing plays to victory.
YMS is now 2-1 this year after the win.
“We have a lot of talent on our team this year,” said YMS volleyball coach Carrie Heineman. “We came out a little rocky. We have a lot of girls from Pemayetv who came in and played with us. So we had to figure out to play together, mesh with each other and work as a team.”
It was during that learning period as the team figured out to work together that YMS dropped their first and only loss of the season. But, now they’ve stacked two back-to-back wins.
Adleigh Schwier and Savannah McCoy have stood out defensively for Yearling, while Kamryn Hackett led the team in kills against Osceola.
“I couldn’t have asked for more from them this game,” said Heineman. “They played exactly like we’ve been training to play in practice. They are really coming along.”
The two Okeechobee middle schools will face each other again on Oct. 11, this time at Osceola.
