OKEECHOBEE – A traveling Smithsonian exhibit “Voices and Votes: The Story of Democracy in America,” will be in the Okeechobee County Courthouse May 28 to July 12.

At the April 11 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission, Angie Griffin of Okeechobee Main Street asked the commissioners for permission to use the lobby of the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 N.W. Second Street, for the display.

She said Okeechobee Main Street received a grant to cover the costs of hosting the traveling museum display. Okeechobee is one of five cities in Florida that received the grant.

The display uses six interactive kiosks to tell the story of the history of voting in the United States and encourages voter participation.

The display will be open to the public during regular courthouse hours.

Okeechobee Main Street will handle promotional materials and insurance.
