Pace Center for Girls Collier finds the Great in Every Girl

Immokalee — Since the COVID19 pandemic has begun, phone calls have skyrocketed to Mental Health hotlines. You might wonder who in our community is stepping up to level the curve? Pace Center for Girls, Collier at Immokalee is at the forefront regarding the tragedy of trauma and its effects on girls. Pace Collier provides girls and young women an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training, and advocacy. Pace is a gender-responsive, trauma-informed, and strength-based program, which has been addressing trauma and girls since 1985.

Pace Center for Girls, Collier at Immokalee has quickly expanded their services during the pandemic to further assist girls and their families. Pace recognized that the increase in household pressures could trigger the trauma crisis. To alleviate the pressure, Pace quickly campaigned for relief and reached out to the community for assistance.

At the start of the COVID19 pandemic, Pace Collier began collecting and distributing food, as well as, hygiene items to girls and their families. Kaleigh Admire, who handles Special Project at Pace Collier, spearheaded this relief. Since the beginning of the pandemic Pace has provided meals and supplies weekly to 95% of our families & distributed 5,137 hygiene items.

Just as COVID19 erupted, newly hired Development Director, Julia Szwed, quickly assessed the crisis- situation and how she could connect with the community to raise needed funds for the 65 girls at Pace Collier. Pace is happy to announce a new and improved “Believing in Girls Society”.

“With live events in a holding pattern and the uncertainty of when they will resume, I thought personally engaging donors with the 65 girls attending our school would be the most effective course of action” explained Julia. “Donors will be updated on their sponsored girls’ growth, along with other special perks for their contribution.”

With the impacts of the Coronavirus threatening our community and in turn young girls, Pace is asking the community help to support these girls through these tough times.

At Pace Center for Girls we Find the Great in Every Girl!
