OHS baseball celebrates season with banquet

OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman baseball program capped off their successful season with an end of year banquet on May 19 at the Indian River State College campus in Okeechobee.

The Brahmans and their families were served food while the players received awards from the coaching staff for their accomplishments during the season.

The Brahmans battled their way to a district championship in April, beating South Fork 4-3.

“This is the first season where I wasn’t ready for it to be done,” said coach Eric Kindell. “There’s a lot of guys here who have been coaching a long time and they know that sometimes the season becomes a grind. But this year I just felt like I wasn’t ready for it do be done.”

The Brahmans fielded a young team this year, featuring only two seniors on the squad. The team had eight freshman, five sophomores, and three juniors.

Seven players earned the scholar athlete award, including Kase Myers, Jacob Hardy, Enoch Busbin, Bryce Ward, Quinn Rucks , Gavin Kindell, and Augi Tijerina.

“I’m not a ‘everybody deserves an award’ guy,” said Kindell, “but every player on this team deserves an award. Everyone played a role in making this season a success.”

Jayce Markham and Bryce Ward tied for the Highest Batting Average award. Bryce also won Most Improved. Orlando Arana won the Golden Glove award. The Brahman award went to Braison Crews.

Jacob Hardy earned both the Pitching award and MVP for his performance with the Brahmans this year.

“Jacob pitched his heart out,” said Kindell. “And when we were struggling to make plays behind him, he kept his head up and didn’t say a word.A positive presence on and off the field. Great for his peers. As a dad that’s something I aspire for my kid to be like. Great teammate. Led the team in prayer everyday.”
