No Kid Hungry Florida awards Glades County with $34,000 grant

GLADES COUNTY — No Kid Hungry Florida has recently funded Glades County School District with $34,000 to strengthen and enhance their school breakfast programs to ensure more kids in Glades County get the nutrition they need to start the day, learn and grow.

Using fresh ingredients, scratch cooking, and culinary expertise, the district plans on creating innovative menus that are nutritious and resonate with their student’s various cultures with the hopes of increasing overall participation.

“Many communities have started taking into account students feedback to improve their meal programs,” said Mark Wilson, Food Service Supervisor for Glades County School District. “We recognized that our students wanted to see meals that reflected what they were being served at home. We are excited to use these funds to make our menus more culturally appropriate through innovative and creative menus that resonate with our students and their families while providing them with the nutrition they need to grow.”

This partnership marks another milestone for the district’s commitment to improving the quality of their meal programs for their students.

“With 1 in 7 kids experiencing food insecurity in our state, meal programs like those in Glades County School District provide many kids with the nutrition they need,” said Joshua Proffitt, program manager for No Kid Hungry Florida. “Breakfast sets students up for success from the very start of the day and ensuring meal programs are built for the students are crucial to their success.”
