OKEECHOBEE- Yearling Middle School’s Marcie Farrell was selected as the Okeechobee County School District's Teacher of the Year the district’s employee banquet on Jan. 19. She was awarded $5,000 from Mid Florida Credit Union for the honor.
Farrell has spent 35 years in education, teaching at the elementary and middle school levels.
YMS principal Pat McCoy said she was grateful to have Farrell at Yearling, calling the day Farrell transferred over from virtual education to the middle school “one of the best days of my career”.
“She has had a tremendous career,” said McCoy. “She has not only had a ling career, but a career of service. She’s one of those teachers the kids know they can count on every single day.”
Other nominees this year included Jonathan Schrock from Osceola Middle School, Sarah Kayda from Everglades Elementary, Megan Fosler from Central Elementary, Carey Pung from Okeechobee High School, Tesa Warthen from Okeechobee Achievement Academy, Candace Bockoras from North Elementary, Maggie Cauley of South Elementary, Martha Cruz of South Elementary, and Joe Suarez of Okeechobee Freshman Campus.
YMS also had the district’s School Related Employee of the Year, Lindsey Yates, and District Assistant Principal of the Year, Kellyann Campbell. Okeechobee High School’s Lauren Myers was selected as District Principal of the Year. Joseph Stanley was named Okeechobee's District Administrator of the Year, while Nancy Cruz was the Managerial Supervisor of the Year.
