OKEECHOBEE — Lillian Stead, a fifth grade student at Seminole Elementary, recently placed second in her grade division at the Association of Florida Conservation Districts’ “Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities” statewide poster contest. Lillian placed first in the fourth - sixth grade division at the local and area levels earlier this year.

The Okeechobee Soil & Water Conservation District holds annual speech and poster contests for local students who then have the ability to compete at the area, state, and national levels. The contest themes are determined by the National Association of Conservation Districts, and is “Healthy Soil, Healthy Communities” for 2022. Information regarding the local 2022 contests will be announced later this year.
