SEBRING — Highlands Hammock State Park is seeking arts and crafts vendors, heritage demonstrators and antique car collectors for the 37th Annual Civilian Conservation Corps Festival which is scheduled for Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ‘CCC’ Festival is the park’s signature event and artisans are welcome to sell original artwork and other items. Heritage exhibitors demonstrating palm art, pine needle basketry, spinning, quilting, hide-tanning, whip-making and other traditional skills may display and sell their work. Antique car collectors whose vehicles date from the late 1920s through 1949 are welcome to exhibit their prized classic cars, trucks, and tractors.
The festival entry fee for vendors is $25 for a standard space. Vendors are also required to have liability insurance which covers shows, fairs and other events and may be obtained online for one day special events. Unique hand-crafted items which meet the standards of juried art fairs are welcome. Paintings, prints, photography, pottery, jewelry, leather goods, glasswork, soaps, candles, cards, wreaths, baskets, weaving and fiber arts and other original items including toys and puppets for children are in demand. Mass-produced items, flea market goods and resale merchandise are not accepted. Authors promoting and selling their books are also included.
Festival highlights include featured guest speaker, author Gary Mormino, who will reveal the connections of Florida foods to Sunshine State history and traditions in his program ‘Ten Foods That Define Florida.’ Two blacksmiths from the Florida Artist Blacksmith Association are forging a table sculpture of a steel water lily for the silent auction. Other highlights include Lake Kissimmee’s Cow Camp, Florida Highwaymen art, archaeology presentations and entertainment featuring the Sebring High Jazz Band and two show choirs. CCC Museum curator David Schmidt will present a sweeping overview of CCC parks in all 48 states. Plan to join Highlands Hammock at this truly unique festival which celebrates history, art, nature, music and the legacy of the CCC and shares traditions and skills across the generations.
