Congressman Steube recognizes Mayor Watford in Aug. 29 Weekly Report

Posted

Mayor Watford was singled out for an award by Congressman Steube in his Aug. 29 weekly report (In the fourth paragraph below).

Dear Floridian:

God bless our troops and their families. I join our fellow citizens, veterans and active military in mourning the loss of our U.S. service members in Kabul. These horrific terrorist attacks demand accountability from the Biden Administration and defense officials responsible for the deadliest day for U.S. troops in over a decade. President Biden must take responsibility for his decisions and strategic failures and resign.

Now, we must do everything possible to protect our military members and defend our nation. Rather than negotiating with the Taliban or sharing sensitive information with terrorists, we must show strength as we demand a safe exit for our citizens, troops and allies. We must take steps to recover or destroy U.S. military equipment rather than allowing it to reach the hands of the terrorists trying to attack us.

However, rather than responding to the situation in Afghanistan, Democrats pushed their $3.5 trillion spending plan last week. We spent over $11 trillion in the past 18 months, and the last thing we need to focus on is spending more money. Next week, I will be joining Americans for Prosperity to discuss the liberal “infrastructure” package. If you’re interested in joining us, please visit https://www.facebook.com/events/1557852017893580/ for more information.

Democrats also shoved H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to the floor last week with no committee markup. This legislation is a redundant power grab that is attempting to reimplement many provisions of the failed H.R. 1, such as banning Voter ID laws. I joined my Republican colleagues in voting no on this legislation and instead focused on fixing the many problems courtesy of Joe Biden and his progressive agenda.

Back in the District, we had a busy weekend. On Friday, our team recognized Okeechobee Mayor Dowling Watford as our FL-17 MVP for the month of August. Mayor Watford has taken his personal level of service well above and beyond the expectations of his public office both during the pandemic and beyond. His willingness to step up for our seniors, families, farmers and small businesses has made him invaluable to our community and exemplifies the true essence of public service. We are grateful for his commitment.
