Brahman wrestlers represent Okeechobee at state tournament

Posted

KISSIMMEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman wrestling team represented Okeechobee well at the state tournament in Kissimmee.

Over 590 wrestlers from across the state competed at the tournament in three divisions. Overall the Brahmans finished in 36th place out of 83 schools in 2A division.

Falco Frank got the team a huge boost with a win in the first round giving the team four points. Falco was not as lucky in his next two matches and was knocked out the next day after two tough battles.

Clayton Wolf lost his first match but was able to win that evening in the second session. In day two Clayton was able to win his next two matches to put him in the placing round were he secured an 8th place finish.

Naveah Robinson was the lone girl to compete for Okeechobee at the tournament. There were 128 teams that had at least 1 girl competing. She lost her first match but battled back to get into the placing round.  With her family in the stands cheering her on she was able battle through a tough back and forth match. In the end Navaeh was able to secure the half nelson and get the fall to finish the tournament in seventh place.

The path to the state tournament started back in districts. The Okeechobee girls finished 8th out 18 teams with Callie Dickie earning the lone championship. Robinson and Patrice Cooper earned third in their weight class. At the regional tournament Robinson pulled out a third place finish to qualify for the state championship, which was her second time qualifying.

The Brahman boys finished in fourth place overall at districts. Falco Frank was the lone champion for Okeeechobee. Kaydyn Frank and Clayton Wolf came home with a second place medal. Wyatt Widdows was able to hold down fourth place. Wyatt had been battling an injury the last month which made his fourth place finish all the more impressive. The one two combination punch of the Crum brothers is always fun to watch. Tommy Crum and William Crum each finished in second in their weight class.

“The biggest surprise of the tournament was Adrian Wilson at heavyweight,” said Brahman coach Bruce Jahner. “Adrian is a light heavyweight freshman who wrestles the older mature kids in his weight. That was not going to stop him as he came through with three tough wins to secure a third place finish.”

At regionals Frank and Wolf both finished third in the weight class to punch their ticket to the state championship.
