WEST PALM BEACH - Damon Weaver, the KEC Canal Point Elementary School student who famously interviewed President Barack Obama in 2009, has died at the age of 23.

Weaver, the youngest reporter to interview a sitting president, died of natural causes, according to a family member.

Weaver was a graduate of Royal Palm Beach High School. He was attending Albany State University in Georgia on a scholarship, and planned to pursue a career in sports journalism.

Weaver started his career in journalism in 2008 on KEC Cunningham Elementary School’s TV newscast.

A funeral service was held at noon on May 14, at St. John 1st Baptist Church in Belle Glade. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service was limited to family.
