Mayor Dave Kerner presents update on Covid-19

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH -- City officials provided residents of Palm Beach County with information on Covid-19 vaccinations during a press briefing on Aug. 9.

Updates were given by Dr. Alina Alonso, director of the Florida Department of Health-Palm Beach County, Dr. Raymond Golish, chief medical officer at JFK Medical Center and Dr. Mazyar Rouhani, emergency director at JFK Medical Center.

Palm Beach County has partnered to open another public testing site which is located at the Mid County Senior Center, 3680 Lake Worth Road. The site is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

As of Sunday, Aug, 8, Palm Beach County has recorded 790 new cases of coronavirus. Since July 1, vaccination rates are up 4% for ages 12-14 and 3% for ages 15-19. Currently, 67% of Palm Beach County residents over the age of 12 have received a Covid-19 vaccination.

“The vast majority of people sick enough to require admission to the hospital are unvaccinated,” Golish said.

Unrelated to the cornovirus, a tropical wave is present with a 70% chance of development within the next five days. The track and strength of the system are unclear at this time and it is advised to make arrangements for shelter with friends and family if you are one who normally seeks public shelter during a storm.
